Cyclone weekend saw Aroha Catering heading off to Waharau, on the sleepy Kaiaua coast, where Auckland entomology students spent their evenings catching bugs (I saw a lot of wetas!!!) and their daytimes examining them under microscopes and learning to delicately pin them so they stay intact.
Bugs most definitely were Not on the menu, despite the many jokes about that! I was the first one awake, up at 0545 to make the fresh bread, perc the coffee, stir the porridge and still manage to squeeze in a dawn yoga session on both days!
A particularly awesome bunch of students, I had plenty of help in the kitchen, lots of jokes and laughter and I learned that stick insects make great pets. The cyclone didn't materialise and we had a beautiful sunny weekend! Thanks guys for making yet another field trip the highlight of my working week!
